I read an article a year or 2 ago which stated at the time there were 5
MILLION Grandchildren being raised by their Grandparents. I figure by now the
number is even higher. Scary isn't it? Hardly a day goes by, that I don't
meet a new one online and although we have never met before long we are
allies in this war of survival that we live each and every day.
I have read horror stories on my monitor told to me by Grands reaching out.
Looking for someone who understands where they are coming from. Where to get
some type of program their child is in need of is still another. Many the
night nightmares woke me because my brain would not shut down the horrors I
read that day. Children sexually abused, starved, beaten or born addicted to
drugs. A child who will not allow you to hug or hold them because they never
bonded as a baby.
In most cases, the friends we knew and thought we would grow old with are no
longer around. We have become "Parents," again BUT don't fit the
"Grandparents" mold either. The friends slip away because we can no longer
keep up, now therapy, school, religion, scouts, activities and homework are
high on our list of priorities.
We commonly, agree our Grandchildren will not become the "FORGOTTEN
GENERATION" as our own, their parents have become the "LOST GENERATION."
